This Article is to show you how to control a FIRGELLI® Pop-Up TV Lift model TVL-180. The wiring of this is actually very simple and only uses 3 wires to be able to control our TV lift from you Home Automations system.
WHICH HOME AUTOMATION SYSTEM WILL THIS WORK WITH
There are so many home automation system on the market it would be impossible to show how to connect each system to every model, so instead we will show you from the TV Lift controllers point of view. In summary we connect 3 wires into the hand controller that comes with the TV Lift system, and it is these 3 wires that control the basic up and down function of the TV lift system.
One wire is the common wire and the other 2 are the up and down trigger wires. by connecting momentarily together the Com wire and the Up or Down wire, triggers the controller to tell the lift to move up or down. The wires only need to come into contact with each other for a split second to close the circuit and command the controller to make the lift move. This means attaching the 3 wires to a relay is also an option.
You're home automation system will dictate how to actually connect the bare wires from our TV Lift system, but 99% of home systems just create a momentary closed circuit type control, or, they give a 12v pulse of power. If your system gives a 12v (or any other voltage) pulse, then you simply connect a relay between the home automation system and the TV Lift. There are 2 basic types of relays that will work. we suggest the standard SPST (Single Pole Single Throw) type relay that we sell here.
You would use 2 of these relays in this case. One will control the up movement and the other will control the down movement, both of which would be triggered from your Home Automation system (if it uses the 12v pulse type trigger).
If your system does not use the voltage out trigger system and instead uses a contact closure type system then you could wire up the bare wires directly into your system.
STEP1:
To gain access to the bare wires take the wired hand controller as shown below, and unscrew the 4 screws on the back. Note the hand controller does have other functions too all of which will still be usable including the up and down function.
STEP2:
Open up the plastic case and remove the cover plate.
STEP3:
Now unscrew the 2 screws that hold in place the cable to the controller back
STEP4:
Completely remove now the plastic body and you now have access to the PCB control board and the wiring.
STEP5:
Flip the PCB over and you can see where the wiring harness is soldered onto the PCB. These wires all have different functions, however the wires you need to solder onto are the Brown wire (Up trigger) - Red wire (Down trigger) - and Beige wire (Common wire). The common wire is the wire that needs to come into contact with either the red or drown wire to make the lift move in either direction. So its possibly you will need to splice the Beige common wire as it may be required to be wired individually as it would if you were using the relay control method mentioned above.
STEP6:
Solder wires onto these 3 wires you need access too (brown, red & beige) To make this step easier, its usually best to solder on the same color wires, but if you don't happen to have these 3 color wires hanging around just ensure you label each wire correctly. Accidentally connecting the wrong wires can short out the control box and void warranty. Also the space between each solder joint is very small so take care not to accidentally solder 2 positions together.
An alternative to soldering to this point here would be to remove the rubber covering off the wire harness and gain access to the colored wires, cut them and then re-attach with new wires soldered onto those wires.
STEP7:
Re-assemble the plastic casing and wire harness clamp. We recommend connecting the wire harness clamp first and testing everything before assembling back the plastic housing. The solder come break away during assembly so do this one step at a time.
STEP8:
plug in the handset to the controller, plug in the power and try it out to ensure you wired everything correctly. You will notice just temporarily connecting the beige and brown wire to make the TV Lift move up, triggers the Lift to start moving and it will continue to move until it reaches its limit or until you press another button to stop it.
