How do you mount a Linear Actuator with a clevis mounting bracket

Common mounting methods for Linear Actuators.

The most common method to mount your linear actuator is to use what is called the Clevis bracket. These common mounting methods consist of mounting the clevis Brackets at each end of the linear actuator where both ends are free to rotate and pivot around the Clevis holes on each of the the actuator.

As you can see above the Actuator has the same clevis mounting bracket installed on each end of the Linear Actuator, and the cross pin slides through both the clevis Bracket and the Actuator to create a solid connection between the two pieces. However the Actuator is allowed to pivot around each of those pins. Why is that important? well once the Actuator begins to move the object it is designed to move it is likely that this component itself is also pivoting around something, and so the Linear Actuator is required to rotate around its Fixed axis.

Do all Linear Actuators have Mounting Clevis bracket ends?

Notice anything familiar about the picture above? all the Linear Actuators ends are the same, they all have holes to slide a clevis Pin through with a clevis bracket. One of the Actuator also has a slot through the middle, this is in case you wish to connect the clevis bracket to the center line of the Actuator.

What other actuator mounting brackets are there to mount a Linear Actuator?

With Some Linear Actuators its possible to mount the linear actuator from the body. With these types of Brackets it simply slides over the main long body of the actuator and can be clamped into place.

Above you can see how this type of Bracket fits onto the body of a linear actuator, and it still has a hole through the bracket so that the linear actuator can still pivot during its motion. The Bracket can slide up and down the length of the linear actuator body and clamped down so that it no longer slides.

Below is our MB10 mounting bracket that fits on any rod end Linear Actuator with a 20mm dia shaft dia which pretty much covers 90% of all Linear Actuators. This clevis mount is ideal for mounting things to as it has 4 threaded holes on 2 sides as well as a single m10 threaded tapped hole in the end which goes through.

How do I hard mount a linear actuator?

Sometimes you don't want the Actuator to rotate around the actuator pivot point of the bracket and instead you want it to remain fixed, almost like a Column lift Actuator

With the mounting bracket above you notice that the bracket has 4 mounting holes where the Actuator then gets hard fixed into position so that the actuator no longer moves or rotates around any axis at all. Basically the Actuator has been converted into a Column Lift Actuator style.   Now that the Actuator is fixed it can no longer rotate around the base, however by installing a regular mounting bracket to the other end of the Linear Actuator we still have the ability to allow whatever is been lifted to pivot, so we get the best of both words with this type of mounting bracket method.

With all FIRGELLI Actuators in the descriptions we give you a lift of all the mounting bracket options that fit with that particular Linear Actuator. Alternatively, here is a link to view all our Actuator mounting brackets
